Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex and wife of British Prince Harry, said she was the victim of a smear campaign by the royal court after the British press reported mistreating her aides.
The Times published excerpts from an email from Jason Knauf, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s former press secretary, from October 2018, which complained that the Duchess of Sussex was intimidating her staff.
In an interview with The Sun, his spokesperson commented on the allegations, saying, “Let’s call this case what it is … a calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful information.”
He stressed: “We are disappointed to see this slander against the Duchess of Sussex by a media known for its credibility,” adding that “it is no coincidence that these accusations were published shortly before the date of the interview which she and her husband conducted with American media outlet Oprah Winfrey, who spoke. “They are upfront and honest about their experiences of the past few years.”
According to the Times, two senior employees claim to have been bullied by the Duchess and another former employee claimed he was “personally insulted by Megan”.
