Experts from the Russian Institute for Medical and Vital Research have come up with a diet plan for astronauts who will participate in the Russian mission on the moon.
Alexander Agureev, head of the Astronaut Food section of the Institute, said the lunar mission regime included foods with increased biological activity and resistance to cosmic rays.
This is due to the exposure of the probe after the output of the Earth's magnetic field to harmful cosmic rays. Scientists have observed serious impacts in the central nervous system of astronauts as a result of galactic cosmic rays.
Agorayev explained that the space mission on the Moon takes place in the absence of gravity, and that the body needs two to ten days to adapt to these conditions. As a result, the food consumed by astronauts will be homogeneous and tasteful.
He added that astronauts working on the moon will need large amounts of protein, which will increase the proportion of their diet by about 3%. The proportion of fat in the body of the astronaut should be reduced.
The Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences of Outer Space held its session devoted to the concept of lunar exploration on November 28th. It was agreed that the program would begin flying to the moon with a series of automated exploratory probes, and the first of these would be launched in 2021.
