NASA has revealed a stunning image of a circular rainbow circling the moon, a ring of colored halo that appeared previously around the full moon over Turin, Italy, in 2014.
"The effect comes from the quantum mechanical torsion of light around water droplets of similar size in an interlaced but often transparent cloud," the agency said. "Because different colors of light have different wavelengths, each color differs differently."
Although a similar aura often forms around the sun, it is more difficult to see than to see the lunar aura.
This is not the first time that NASA has released a rainbow image, such as "The astronomical image of today".
