The Federal National Council’s Committee on Health and Environmental Affairs, at its meeting yesterday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Council in Dubai, chaired by Naama Abdullah Al Sharhan, Second Vice-President of the Council and President of the Commission, continued to discuss the issue of Ministry of Health and Community Protection policy on mental health promotion, in the presence of ministry officials.

The meeting brought together members of the committee: Sumaya Abdullah Al-Suwaidi, the committee rapporteur, Ahmed Hamad Bushhab, Shatha Saeed Al-Naqbi, Azraa Hassan bin Rakad and Muhammad Ahmed Al-Yamahi.

Naama Abdullah Al-Sharhan, head of the committee, said that during the meeting, views were exchanged on the results the committee had reached during its discussions on the subject and the field visits that the committee had reached. ‘he performed in the mental health departments of several hospitals. The committee decided to discuss its report on the subject at its next meeting and to include it with recommendations that help strengthen the role of the ministry in delivering mental health services in the country to the highest standards.

The Ministry of Health and Community Protection was represented at the meeting by: Dr Amna Ali Turki, Director of Al-Amal Mental Health Hospital, Dr Lubna Ali Al-Shaali, Director of Health Policy Department public, Dr Rasha Al-Sayed Salama, Health Law Advisor, and Dr Noor Majid Al Muhairi, Director of the Mental Health Department at Emirates Services Corporation health.

The committee discusses the subject of the policy of the Ministry of Health and Community Protection in matters of mental health promotion along several axes: the policy and strategic plans of the ministry in the development of policies and legislation in this area. mental health, the role of the ministry in promoting and expanding the scope and integrated services of mental health, and promoting the prevention of mental disorders for community members. and the role of the ministry in cooperation with authorities concerned to implement the mental health promotion policy and the services provided.
