The Federal National Council’s Committee on Health and Environmental Affairs, at its meeting held on Monday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Council in Dubai, chaired by Naama Abdullah Al-Sharhan, Second Vice-President of the Council and Chairman of the Committee, a resumed consideration of the issue of Ministry of Health and Community Protection policy on mental health promotion.

The meeting brought together members of the committee: Sumaya Abdullah Al-Suwaidi, the committee rapporteur, Azra Hassan bin Rakad, and Muhammad Ahmed Al-Yamahi.

Naama Abdullah Al-Sharhan, head of the committee, said that during the meeting, the general topic continued to be discussed and the special report on the six field visits carried out by the committee was reviewed to see the services provided in mental health departments. in a number of public hospitals, as part of its work plan to discuss the issue of health ministry policy. Community protection to promote mental health.

She added that the report included the results obtained by the committee during field visits to Al Amal Hospital and Rashid Hospital in Dubai, Al Qassimi Hospitals, Kuwait and Khorfakkan in Sharjah, and the Fujairah Hospital in the Emirate of Fujairah, during which challenges were identified, the level of health services and treatment programs provided to auditors of mental health departments and how to treat them, and the energy capacity derived from the availability of beds and medical equipment to treat all cases.

She added that the opinions, suggestions and observations of the medical, technical and administrative staff working in the hospitals were considered, and the needs of the auditors were identified, and the services related to psychiatry for different age groups and types, including the community psychiatry service which is provided to psychiatric patients at home, criminal psychiatry and psychiatry for consultation and communication from the internal services of all hospitals, the outpatient psychiatric service and the emergency psychiatric emergency service 24 hours a day.

Naama Al-Sharhan indicated that the committee concluded from these visits a number of recommendations which will be included in the final report of the committee on the subject, in order to help raise the level of services in the mental health departments of hospitals in accordance with to international standards. .

She explained that the committee discusses the subject of the policy of the Ministry of Health and Prevention on the promotion of mental health along several axes: the policy and strategic plans of the ministry in the development of policies and legislation in mental health, the ministry’s role in promoting and expanding the reach of and integrated mental health services, and promoting the prevention of mental disorders for members of society. in cooperation with the authorities concerned to implement the mental health promotion policy and the services provided.
