Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno has proposed to his Colombian counterparts Ivan Duque and Peruvian Martin Fescara to present a joint bid to host the FIFA World Cup 2030.
"I suggested yesterday to Presidents Ivan Duque and Martin Fescara to organize the Ecuador World Cup in Colombia, Peru 2030, year in which South America will have an advantage for the organization of the tournament, "wrote Moreno on his Twitter account Sunday.
The three presidents met on the sidelines of a summit in Colombia, devoted to discussions on measures to protect the Amazon rain forest from fires.
The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) wants the continent to be the host of the 2030 edition, the centenary of the first World Cup organized by Uruguay in 1930.
Several countries have expressed the wish to host the 2030 World Cup, including Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay, which will submit a joint file.
Spain and Portugal have also expressed interest in hosting, as have Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania, as well as England and Ireland.
FIFA will choose the host country for the 2030 World Cup in 2022, on the sidelines of the next edition of the trophy organized by Qatar, which will take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico. 32
