FIFA announced on Wednesday its new system of FIFA Club World Cup, which will bring the number of teams to 24 clubs.
FIFA decided that the first edition of the tournament would be held in the summer of 2021, from June 17 to July 4, which resulted in the cancellation of the Confederations Cup, held a year ago from the World Cup.
According to this date, the launch of the Confederations Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations will be postponed from July 5th to 31st and the European championships will start in mid-August.
The 24 participating clubs will be divided into 8 groups, each group consisting of 3 clubs, with the leaders in each group qualifying for the quarter-finals of the knockout system.
In its statement after the meeting, the International Federation confirmed that the participation system and the clubs representing each continent were still under discussion in the coming period.
The Associated Press said the International Federation had discussed the proposed form from each continent of participation, without being officially announced.
The proposed format is as follows: 8 clubs from Europe, 6 from Latin America, 3 from Africa, Asia and CONCACAF, as well as a team from North America, Central America and the Caribbean.
The distribution took place despite the announcement made by the European clubs to previously refuse to participate in the tournament in its new form, and to confirm the case after the official announcement of the system by FIFA.
