Japan's Nissan Motor Co. announced Monday that its chief executive, Hiroto Saikawa, will resign from his post in a few days after acknowledging receipt of funds in violation of the rules.
The news shocked the Japanese company, which has seen a decline in profits over the past period, in the context of the crisis of former CEO Carlos Ghosn, who was overthrown in March.
"The director of operations, Yasuhiro Yamuchi, will temporarily assume the role of chief executive until he is appointed in late October," Nissan said in a statement, according to the Kyodo News Agency. .
The resignation of "Saikawa" is the premature departure of a person in charge of correcting the status of the company, after the dismissal of his former president, "Carlos Ghosn", and his arrest for financial misconduct.
Ghosn, who was ousted from the group's presidency in March, faces charges of "financial corruption and dishonesty" after being accused of not disclosing about $ 82 million of his salary and having transferred personal financial losses to Nissan's accounts.
Nissan's net profit fell by 57% during the 2019/2018 fiscal year.
