Writer George RR Martin, an agreement with the American network “HBO”, worth “tens of millions of dollars”, to develop new content.
The contract between the creator of the world of “Game of Thrones” and the channel is for a period of five years, and includes several projects, including what is adapted from his books.
The channel, based on Martin’s novel “A Song of Ice and Fire,” reached a record number of viewers worldwide and over fifty Emmy Awards for its eight seasons between 2011 and 2019.
Currently, Martin is working on a new TV adaptation called “Dragon House,” which takes place three centuries before the original series, and is slated for release in 2022.
The trade magazine “Hollywood Reporter” mentioned that the new decade includes the production of the story of the warrior queen Nimeria, who dominated for a thousand years before the events of the “Game of Thrones”, as well as an animated series whose characteristics have not yet been defined, and other series.
The “Warner Media” group, owner of “HPO”, announced in a statement to Agence France-Presse that the author had signed “a global contract with the aim of developing content on behalf of the channel and the drifting video on demand service. ”
The group confirmed in their statement that the writer will be part of a production team for two projects “HPO” is preparing for, based on works of fiction by two other authors.
Martin is also involved in a project for “Netflix”, adapted from one of his early novels, “Kings of the Sand”.
This intense activity of the 72-year-old writer makes fans of “Song of Ice and Fire” fear that the literary series which began three decades ago has been eclipsed by the success of the television series.
