Scientists from the University of Texas, Southwest South, have successfully produced a vaccine that will reduce two proteins linked to Alzheimer's disease.
Scientists at the Peter O Donnell Jr. Brain Institute, who conducted a vaccine study, expect this discovery to pave the way for experiments on humans.
The vaccine injected into the skin of mice stimulated an immune response by releasing antibodies that reduce the accumulation of beta and amyloid proteins associated with the disease, without severe brain swelling caused by antiretroviral therapy in some patients. .
The university said in a statement that, at the beginning of this century, a vaccine had been developed to treat the disease, but that, tested on humans, it caused some patients' brain swelling .
"This immune response could be safe for humans," said Dr. Roger Rosenberg, director of the Alzheimer's Disease Center at the university.
