Suwaiqah is one of the oldest and most important historical markets, which sees a large participation of buyers in Medina, especially during the month of Ramadan, public holidays and other social occasions.
The market, also known as “Al-Qamshah”, is located to the west of the Prophet’s Mosque.
The textile trade dominated the market, which has a history of more than 430 years, in addition to gold, perfume and other products, before disappearing after the fire of AH 1397.
The market was reopened a few months ago by the “Al-Ainiya and Souk Suwaiqah” initiative, as part of the “Namaa Al-Monawara” projects, while some historians have confirmed that its history spans more than 430 years old.
