News 24 Are there any cameras in the entertainment screens with airplane seats?

ExpressiveIn-flight entertainment systems have become a common feature of the airline industry during the current period, particularly during long-haul transoceanic flights, often screens behind seats.

Some travelers, however, noticed cameras inside the screens, including a passenger on a Singapore Airlines flight and another on an American Airlines plane.

This raised questions as to whether the cameras could be designed to monitor passengers. Both companies answered this question in two Business Insider statements.

"Cameras are essential equipment for aircraft entertainment in many airlines," said American Airlines.

"Although these cameras exist in some American companies, they have never been used and the company does not consider that."

"Some of our most recent entertainment systems are equipped with cameras and the manufacturers of these systems have provided them with future developments," said Singapore Air.

"These cameras are not fully activated in our aircraft, can not be activated on board and we do not intend to operate or develop equipment using cameras."

Business Insider explained that airlines did not manufacture in-flight entertainment systems, American Airlines bought Panasonic entertainment systems and Singapore Airlines relied on Panasonic and Thales.
