German researchers have achieved great success in their experiments on an effective vaccine against the Epstein-Barr virus, which could be responsible for serious diseases such as glands or even a deadly cancer. The researchers used the mice in a new way in their experiments.
The Epstein Barr Virus (EBV – Epstein Barr Virus) is a virus belonging to the family of herpes. More than 90% of the world's population is infected with the virus without the appearance of a particular disease. The immune system keeps him in the shelter and inhibits him.
However, the virus can cause serious diseases such as glandular fever, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma or autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis. An effective vaccine has yet to be found because it is difficult to understand the cause of the disease in this virus.

Researchers at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) have taken a decisive step towards finding an effective vaccine against EBV, according to the Heidelberg Cancer Research Center, which has successfully tested the vaccine against mouses. The main problem so far lies in the fact that the virus is going through two different phases of its life cycle: previous vaccine trials were only aimed at one stage, but DKFZ researchers focused on both stages of their lives in their research and recent experiences.
In their new experiments, the researchers tested the particles with antimicrobials in mice whose bone marrow had been replaced by human bone marrow. They had an immune system very similar to that of the human immune system. As a result, the animals showed an immune response and protection against EBV / Epstein-Barr infection. Researchers must now develop new models that they have discovered capable of experimenting on humans, which promises to lead to an effective drug against this dangerous virus and treat the diseases it causes.
