The mission of the Department of Tourism and Antiquities of the University of Hail discovered, during archaeological excavations of the ancient city of Faid east of the city of Hail, a gold dinar dating from the time of the Caliph Abbasid Harun al-Rashid, weighing about four grams, and dated to the year 180 AH.
The dean of the College of Letters and Arts, Muhammad al-Shehri, said that the face of the dinar in the center included a sentence written in simple and prominent Kufic script, which is “There is no god but God alone and has no partner, “In the form of three consecutive rows.” It was he who sent his messenger with the direction and religion of the truth to show it over all religion. “
The head of the Department of Tourism and Antiquities at Hail University, Abdullah Al-Omran, added that the other side of the dinar was written with the phrase: “Muhammad is the Messenger of God”, each word in a line. separate, and below, in a smaller font, the name “Jaafar” is written.
It is likely that the name “Jaafar” means Minister Jaafar bin Yahya Al-Barmaki, Minister of Caliph Harun Al-Rashid, adding that the outer frame of the back of the dinar is inscribed on the basmalah and the year of the dinar being minted , in the manner: “In the name of God, this dinar was minted in the year eighty-one hundred.”
It is noteworthy that the university mission also found various antiques used in the Abbasid era, such as utensils, tools, as well as a group of currencies, the most important of which is the Abbasid dinar.
