As part of the efforts of the "Major Projects Committee" under the chairmanship of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to extend the area of green spaces in the capital Riyadh, the guardian of the two holy mosques on Tuesday launched the project "Green Riyadh "in the framework of four quality projects for a total cost of 86 billion riyals.
The project aims to bring green surface per capita to Riyadh to 28 square meters and bring the total green area to 541 square kilometers by planting more than 7.5 million trees throughout Riyadh.
The project covers most of the city's components, including 3,330 parks, 43 large parks, 9,000 mosques, 6,000 schools, 64 colleges and universities, 390 health facilities, 1,670 government facilities, 16,400 kilometers of streets and buildings. roads, 2,000 car parks, 1,100 km of "green zones" on utility lines (power transmission pylons and oil pipelines), 175,000 land, 272 km of valleys and tributaries.
In order to provide the necessary quantities of irrigation for the project, new networks will be created using the treated wastewater in the valleys, which will increase the rate of use in the city of 90,000 m3 to more than one million cubic meters a day.
In addition, 72 varieties of local trees in the dense shade will be used to adapt to the environment of the city of Riyadh, while providing all the necessary conditions: setting up of A network of nurseries to feed the project into seedlings, elaboration of urban legislation and regulations favoring afforestation in public and private projects, to all groups of society to encourage them to participate in voluntary afforestation.
Afforestation will help improve air quality by reducing carbon dioxide by 3 to 6%, increasing oxygen and humidity and reducing dust in the air, by lowering temperatures from 1.5 to 2 ° C during the summer at the city level. About 8 ° C in areas of intensive afforestation, helping to reduce energy consumption and increase the city's capacity to absorb, exploit and minimize rainwater.
The project will promote healthy mobility among the city's population, strengthen social communication among all segments of society and improve quality of life indicators in the city while contributing to an economic return of 71 billion riyals in 2030.
This important return is obtained thanks to the role of the project in the reduction of the expenses: health care, consumption of electricity, valuation of the real estate, rationalization of the waste of drinking water in the irrigation and replacement of the networks of treated water .
While launching new investment opportunities for the private sector in the following areas: nurseries, horticulture, landscaping, landscaping, landscaping and irrigation.
