Sheikh Saad Al-ShathrySenior Scholar Council member Sheikh Saad Al-Shathry responded to a question about the Sharia ruling that a son can prevent his mother from marrying.

He explained that the son does not have the right to prevent his mother from marrying after the father’s death, if a competent suitor offers him, because he is considered a legally prohibited muscle.

He added, during today’s meeting (Thursday) with the program “Istafounak” on the Al-Risala channel, that if the father of the wife marries his daughter, his guardianship is valid, if the suitor is someone who has qualities of competence in his religion and character.

He pointed out that there was a disagreement among the majority of academics, as some believe that the woman’s guardian is her son and not her father, and others believe that the son has no jurisdiction over his mother in the wedding.
