Consultant and Head of Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Dr Ibrahim Al-Razzouk said that the complications of the disease are ulcers and severe narrowing of the intestine when the abscess occurs, swelling filled with pus from infection around the anus and around the intestine. , anal fissures and intestinal fistulas.

He added that the complications are infections outside the digestive system, such as: inflammation of the joints, eyes and blood clots: such as deep vein thrombosis, osteoporosis, kidney and gallbladder stones, and it can cause colon cancer.

Al-Razzouk advised people with the disease to follow a number of instructions, the most important of which are: ensure regular follow-up with the doctor, and take medications prescribed by the specialist doctor, and avoid stopping treatment. when the symptoms are gone.

He stressed the importance of following a healthy diet to avoid worsening symptoms and of drinking plenty of fluids; To prevent dehydration, exercise, stop smoking, reduce anxiety and stress as much as possible and avoid taking herbal preparations without consulting a doctor; This is to avoid that it interferes with the absorption of prescribed drugs.
