Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef approved amendments to the Weapons and Ammunition System Regulations, which were issued in 1426 AH.
The regulations included restricting the importation of small arms, air rifles, hunting weapons and their supplies, spare parts and ammunition, as well as the sale and purchase of them at Saudis are licensed, and it is not allowed to import and market ancient weapons for trade without a license from the Minister.
The regulation – published by the Umm Al-Qura newspaper today, Friday, allowed the purchase of archaeological weapons, provided they do not exceed 3 pieces per year, and that the weapons must be manufactured before the year 1900.
It included a number of conditions for the transport of consignments, the most important of which is that firearms and their ammunition must not be combined in one consignment, and that the driver bears proof of the order of the dispatch and its subordination to the party authorized to exercise the profession of arms sales, in addition to the delivery of goods supplied under the supervision of Public Security, and the Department of Weapons and Explosives under the supervision of the police. The region ensures that conditions and instructions are applied in arms stores.
The regulations specified the conditions for obtaining a license to carry small arms and hunting weapons, the most important of which is that the license applicant must be a Saudi Arabian, and not less than 22 years old, and that it must be free from criminal precedents and safety restrictions that prevent it from being licensed, in addition to being free from impairments and diseases that prevent it from using the weapon, and this is a provided that he has not made any changes to the components of the weapon required to obtain a license.
The regulation sets out the controls on the surrender of arms, with the need to fulfill the conditions for granting the license to the assignee and to revoke the assignee’s arms license after the issuance of the arms license to the assignee, in addition the need for the transfer to the State of licensed weapons and their ammunition to be free.
