Experimental operation of the first turbine of the Dumat Al-Jandal wind project has startedThe Energy Ministry announced that on July 28, the experimental operation of the first turbine of the Dumat Al-Jandal project in the Al-Jawf region, to harness wind power in power generation, had start.

This project is the first of its kind as part of the work to produce 50% of the Kingdom’s electricity from renewable sources by 2030, and constitutes a concrete implementation of one of the objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030.

About the project:

– This is the first project in the Kingdom and the largest of its kind in the Middle East.

– Its production capacity is 400 megawatts, enough to supply 70,000 homes with electricity.

It will remove 988,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

The project reinforces the objectives of the national energy mix, which is to reach 50% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.

– It hit a record high, represented by recording the lowest level of cost of electricity generation in 2019, amounting to $ 0.0199 per kilowatt hour.

It contains 99 turbines, each with a height of 205 meters above the ground, and the output of each turbine is 4.2 megawatts.

It received the Renewable Energy Sector Deal of the Year in the Middle East and Africa for the year 2019.
