The arrival of a new shipment of emerging coronavirus vaccines recalled a heroic story led by Dr Hamad Al-Lahib, who was able to avert a health catastrophe 100 years ago.
A report from the “Mbc in a Week” program highlighted the contribution of the flame, known as the pioneer of smallpox vaccination, in transporting vaccines to people in the Nejd region after suffering from the disease in the 1920s .
His heroic story began when he returned to Buraidah to get married, from Kuwait, where he worked in the trade, to find the people of Najd suffering from smallpox.
Then the young Najdi decided to return with the trade convoys to seek treatment for them, as he traveled to Iraq to work in a hospital in Basra, to learn medicine and how to administer vaccines.
During 5 years of medical work he was able to get good experiences which help him to accomplish his basic mission, then he came back with smallpox vaccines on the appearance of camels in Najd.
