A citizen of disabled people appealed to the Ministry of Health and the relevant authorities, after being subjected to a situation in the hospital due to her inability to communicate with medical staff.
Citizen, Hoda Abu Ahmed, said through a video clip she posted on her Twitter account that her father was broken and had accompanied him to the hospital, but had crossed the language barrier, as she could not find in the personal hospital someone who understands sign language, which forced her to contact her brother “The Speaker” to communicate with them.
She pointed out that she felt sad when she didn’t understand her father’s condition and wondered how to communicate if there was a family of all deaf members.
She called for the need to provide sign language interpreters in hospitals 24 hours a day, to treat and communicate with those in her situation.
For its part, the Ministry of Health interacted with the citizenship complaint, stressing its desire to provide all services adapted to the health conditions of people with disabilities, and that it launched the “We Are With You” initiative to hard of hearing people in order to support this group.
The ministry added that it had designated the 937 Center, which operates 24 hours a day, to facilitate access to health services through various applications, including the “signal” application.
Peace be upon you … I am deaf and suffer from inability to communicate in the hospital. There is no one who knows how to communicate in my language from the healthcare staff, and there is no interpreter available for those in my hospital situation like me. @SaudiMOH @AwwadSAlawwad @shi_org_sa @kscdr pic.twitter.com/qKD69hsvWF
