Today (Wednesday), the Emir of the Northern Borders Region, Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Sultan, with the participation of an Iraqi delegation led by Minister of the Interior Othman Al-Ghanmi, inaugurated the operation of a new border post in Arar for commercial and passenger traffic.
The agreement to open the port came after it was closed for almost 30 years, according to the results of the work of the Saudi-Iraqi Coordinating Council at its fourth session, which was approved by Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman and the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi.
Videos and photos of the opening site showed that all preparations were completed to start work on the port, which includes a “logistics zone” that will serve as an economic gateway to the northern part of the Kingdom.
On the occasion of the opening, the Kingdom sent a convoy of medical supplies and equipment as a gift from the Guardian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Iraqi people to deal with the Corona pandemic.
The construction and improvement project of the port “Jadidat Arar” on the Saudi side and the port “Arar” on the Iraqi side is located on a total area of 1.6 million square meters.
