The Saudi Wildlife Authority has confirmed having made contact with those who practice overfishing in the Wa Wa protected area in Hawtat Bani Tamim.
The Commission said the offense had been committed by two people Monday morning with the help of machine guns, noting that their identity had been identified after a follow-up by members of Protected Areas Protection.
In the light of the foregoing, these two persons reside within the boundaries of the protected area and have already committed several violations of the protected area system and have been fined and sentenced to imprisonment.
The Commission has required the application of dissuasive sanctions to violators, because of their indifference to wildlife and their repeated violation, and contravenes regulations and instructions.
One of those who is interested in wildlife has described what happened as a "genocide" of the mountains, pointing out that these mules are extremely rare and pure-bred in the Tuwaiq Mountains , and demanded the imposition of dissuasive sanctions so as not to repeat it.
