And the moment his lens observed this bird, he commented: “From our house, which is on the island of Tarout, I set off towards the area of ​​Muhaisniyat near Dareen on the shore of the sea, which is at five minutes. I didn’t think I would meet this giant bird after its first sighting in the area in 2012, and I was surprised. Raised off the ground, to stand on one of the branches from afar, I thought so, and after I straightened the lens and zoomed in, it became clear to me that it was a hawkfish, but it flew against -currently in my direction, and suddenly its flight straightened up and came back towards me, and I only recorded three shots, the best of which is the closest and the tweeters exchanged.

And photographer Mahdi Al-Sagheer, retired from Saudi Arabia, has an injured leg and uses the crutch even while filming. His name became famous after spotting birds on the island of Tarut, and bird watchers call him “the mayor” in their domain. he is considered a pioneer in this field at the Gulf level and his long experience, which spanned over 13 years in their follow-up, and the previous hunting arts, made him one of the sources on birds of the region.

The strangest prey

Environmental specialist Muhammad Al-Zayer, head of the Peninsula Bird Watching and Protection Group, described the vulture eagle as one of the strangest prey in the world today, explaining that ” this is due to several reasons, not least because it has no peers or the like, in addition to its wide distribution in regions. “The coastal areas of the ancient world, Europe, Asia and Africa, as well as its capacity to coexist and reproduce in more than one environment, whether in hot weather, tropical areas or even cold.

Regarding the nature of the coast of Tarout Island, which attracts such a bird of prey at this time of year, Al-Zayer added, “The eagerness of migrating birds spends all winter on the island. east coast of Saudi Arabia, and depends for 90% of its diet on fish. The abundance of fish and the shallow water are factors. The attraction for the bird and a nurturing environment for it, and its stay in Tarut Bay is usually prolonged during the winter migration between September and April.
