One study found that daily consumption of a glass of orange juice can significantly reduce the risk of dementia. The researchers followed nearly 28,000 men for two decades to discuss the impact of their consumption of fruits and vegetables on their mental powers.
Researchers at Harvard University found that men who drank a small glass of orange juice were 47 percent less likely to remember, follow instructions, or move to known areas.
Memory disturbances, comprehension and episodes of confusion can be early signs of brain damage, possibly leading to life-threatening dementia.
The number of people with dementia in the world is estimated at 46.8 million, which does not yet exist, but scientists are struggling to find an effective treatment to eliminate dementia. These new findings confirm the importance of a healthy diet in eliminating brain degeneration, which occurs with age.
"Eating long-term fruits, vegetables and orange juice can help maintain cognitive function," said author of the study, Zhang Zhengyuan.
"Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins and nutrients, including antioxidants that can help protect the brain," said Dr. Hannah Gardner, a researcher at the University of Miami who did not participated in the research. These health benefits can protect the brain from the accumulation of unwanted molecules and maintain adequate blood flow to the brain.
