Today, Friday, the company “Pfizer” and its partner “Biontech” provided new data to the US Food and Drug Administration on the temperature required to store their vaccine against the emerging corona virus.

The data provided indicate that the vaccine can be stored at normal temperatures with refrigeration and freezing devices in pharmacies.

If the new data is approved, the easing of conditions will significantly reduce transport and storage costs, as the vaccine currently must be stored at minus 70 degrees Celsius, which is especially difficult in low-income countries that do not have storage infrastructure at super cold temperatures.

The new data has been submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to support a proposal to change emergency use permit recommendations to allow packaging to be stored between minus 25 degrees and minus 15 degrees for two weeks in total instead of storage in ultra-low temperature refrigerators.

“The data provided can make it easier for our vaccine to flow through pharmacies and give vaccination centers greater flexibility,” said Ugur Shaheen, CEO of Biontech.

Both companies said the new data will also be presented to global regulators in a few weeks.

The Pfizer and Biontech vaccine, as well as the Moderna vaccine, have been granted emergency use authorization in the United States and are being widely distributed as part of the nation’s comprehensive immunization efforts.
