Trainers, Niantic, and Pokemon Go restore PokeStop reaction radius to standard distance.
According to the world’s largest Pokemon Go dataset, the PokeStop Interaction Distance has been updated in some countries and players need to get closer to spin the PokeStop.
The new PokeStops interaction distance is only available in New Zealand and the US at the moment, but it looks like these changes will be in effect worldwide at some point.
PokeStop distance changes
- From 80 meters to 40 meters.
According to the official Pokemon Go blog:
Over the next few months, we plan to remove or change some of the bonuses introduced last year. We won’t be making these changes until after Pokémon GO Fest in July, and we will be phasing them out first for testing in the US and New Zealand starting in late July. We will remove or modify them as we move to other countries and regions, and at the same time introduce new exploration rewards.
Previously, the interaction distances between PokéStop and Gym were increased to allow people to participate from further afield. After this change, the distance will revert to the standard distance, as this makes sense in different places, although it may be increased during future events and as part of certain features.
Please keep in mind that these changes and bonuses are in effect in some parts of the world, so they are not yet global.
What do you think of these changes? Do you agree or disagree with this decision?
