The President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, said that Egypt and the European Union are leading the way in the region.
This happened during his speech at the Arab-European Summit to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh on Sunday 24 February.
Juncker praised the efforts of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to organize the summit. "There are differences of opinion, but we must overcome them."
He stressed that the historic Mount St. Catherine symbolized cooperation, adding, "We must work together and the European Union strives to be an Arab partner on the road to peace. .
"The Union has allocated substantial sums to the Palestinian and Syrian refugees to return to their country."
"Egypt and the European Union will lead the development of the region and our common history must work together," he added, adding: "Peace and security will only be achieved through cooperation ".
The summit of the European Union – the first Arab league of its kind – was held Sunday in Sharm el-Sheikh. Representatives from European and Arab countries attended, bringing together some fifty delegations from both sides.
The summit will be chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sissi and the European side by European Council President Donald Tusk.
