President of the German Federation resigns for "precious gift"

The German Football Federation (DFB) has announced its resignation after a series of scandals. Recently, she received a donation of 6,000 euros from the Vice President of Ukrainian and European Trade Unions, Gregory Sorkis.

57-year-old Reinhard Grindel has been pressured to accept a "luxury hour" from the president of the Ukrainian Football Federation.

Grindel said he had received the gift and that he would not finish his three-year term in a statement released Tuesday.

Grindel has been under pressure since the disappointing start of the German national team in the first round of last summer's World Cup finals.

The president of the German football federation was criticized by Turkish midfielder Masoud Ozil, who confirmed that he had retired internationally due to racist treatment inflicted on him by the federation and German officials.

Grindel gave an interview to Deutsche Welle in March after refusing to answer questions about the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Der Spiegel said last Friday that Grindel had hidden about 78,000 euros in revenue from branches of the German federation in 2016 and 2017.

According to the German media, former international defender Christoph Metzelder, aged 38, was appointed to succeed Grindel.
