The Saudi King issued an order to relieve al-Falih from the post of Minister of Energy

Saudi King Salman of Saudi Arabia has ordered that Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih be exempted from his duties, reported the official SPA news agency.

The king ordered the appointment of his son, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, to succeed Faleh.

It was the first time that a member of the Saudi royal family was minister of energy in the world's largest oil exporter.

King Salman also fired Deputy Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Abdullah, and appointed Osama bin Abdulaziz al-Zamil instead.

Authorities in Al-Falih appear to have recently begun to contract: a Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, separate from the Ministry of Energy, was established last month.

A few days ago, Saudi oil giant Saudi Aramco appointed the general secretary of the board of the Public Investment Fund, Yasser Bin Othman Al-Rumayyan, to succeed Faleh as president.
