Qatari government sources said on Tuesday that official procedures had been launched to extract treasure discovered in the north of the country.

Qatar Petroleum CEO Saad al-Kaabi has announced that Qatar will continue its mammoth project to expand North Field, a strategic treasure for the country, according to Reuters.

"Kaabi" said: "Qatar has prepared a short list of international oil companies vying to participate in the giant project to expand the northern field, but they may choose to advance alone unless large companies do not offer them great value ".

This project is one of the most profitable projects in the energy sector in this small gas-rich country, and major oil and gas companies are eager to take a stake in this sector.

"We like the partnership model because it has many advantages, but as we do not need partners, we apply a set of standards that we adopt to show us the added value Qatar will get if you participate." , did he declare.

"They might have been able to offer us something abroad," he said, referring to LNG assets located outside the company's internal market.

The director of Qatar Petroleum did not specify what part of the project would be proposed and declined to comment on the shortlisted companies.

Qatar Petroleum has projected 33 million tons of LNG from new facilities in 2024 and will have to find buyers for another 35 million tons at the expiry of the current five-year contract.

It also wants to increase its LNG production to about 110 million tonnes per year, up from 77 million tonnes in the next five years, by building four new production units.
