Qatar announces major gas discovery in the eastern Mediterranean (map)

Qatar Petroleum (QP) announced Thursday the discovery of natural gas in the eastern Mediterranean in the territorial waters of Cyprus, the second of its kind this month after the discovery in South Africa.

The company said in a statement that it and its partner, ExxonMobil, had discovered a discovery of natural gas at the Glaucus-1 exploration well in Maritime Zone No. 10 located in Cypriot territorial waters. , 180 km southwest of the port city of Limassol.

The company did not estimate the size of the existing natural gas reserves, but simply described the discovery as inspired.

This is the second largest gas discovery in Qatar for weeks. Qatar Petroleum and its partners, led by the French group Total, announce a major gas and condensate discovery in South Africa.

Qatar is one of the most important players in the LNG market, with an annual output of 77 million tons. And plans to increase its production capacity by 43% by 2023-2024.
