Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Qatar won the Asian Cup for the first time in its history, defeating its Japanese counterpart by 3 goals against a goal in the 2019 finals in the UAE.
On the field of Madinat Zayed stadium in Abu Dhabi, Qatar scored the goal "to return" by Al Moez Ali. Abdul Aziz Hatem added the second goal in the 26th minute to end the first period with two straight points for Qatar.
In the second half, Japan narrowed the gap in the 66th minute thanks to Minamino Takumi, before Akram Afif scored Qatar's third goal on the penalty spot in the 81st minute, ending the match with a 3-0 win over Qatar.
With this victory, Qatar won its first title in the Asian Nations Cup, becoming the third Gulf team to achieve this goal after Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
For his part, Al-Moez Ali became the first player to score nine goals in an Asian Cup, beating Iran's Ali Daei, record holder with eight goals.
