Al-Marsad Journal: A Swiss court has issued a ruling acquitting Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi on charges of aggravated criminal mismanagement in his corruption trial involving the former secretary general of FIFA Jerome Valcke, who was convicted of falsifying documents related to Italian and Greek television broadcasting rights.
British newspaper The Independent said the Attorney General’s office in Switzerland had brought charges against Valcke and Al-Khalifi, head of the Qatar-based media group BN Sport, over the granting of rights to broadcast matches in a certain number of tournaments, including the World Cup and the Confederations Cup.
The 10-day trial ended on Friday with Valcke given a 120-day suspended prison sentence, while FIFA dropped a further corruption charge against Al-Khelaifi ahead of the trial after the president of Paris Saint- Germain agreed to pay a substantial settlement.
Prosecutors demanded the Falki’s imprisonment for three years, 28 months for Al-Khulaifi and 30 months for Dereis, with partial suspension in all three cases.
This is the first ruling in Switzerland, the seat of most international sports organizations, in around 20 FIFA-related cases in the past five years, when two former football executives in Latin America were imprisoned in the United States and not in Switzerland.
