Reduction in the number of HIV infections in Russia

The chief AIDS specialist at the Russian Ministry of Health, Alexei Mazos, announced that the situation related to the AIDS epidemic had stabilized in Russia.

He said that Russia was able to maintain a high and qualitative standard of helping AIDS patients during the epidemic of this disease, and was also able to ensure an adequate supply of drugs.

As for the majority of medical centers in Russian regions, they insisted not to interrupt the process of treating AIDS patients.

He, Mazos, told a press conference held on World AIDS Day that the number of new infections was declining in Russia.

He added that AIDS no longer affects young people in Moscow, as it is not considered a disease for young people.

And Mazus expressed his hope that an effective vaccine against AIDS infection would emerge around the world. He said Russia is on the verge of developing a few vaccines against it, as a patient can get rid of this dangerous disease with just one injection.
