LONDON (Reuters) – Bayern Munich striker Franck Ribery has defended himself from criticism and social media attacks after the "Golden Slice" incident.
Ribery, 35, appeared in a video clip of a gold-plated sliced steak before spraying salt himself at the restaurant of famed Turkish chef, Nusrat Djokche, in Dubai.
The video sparked a wave of criticism against Ribery, which seems to come mostly from the French public, who responded to the criticism with scathing comments via social media.
"I do what I love in my own life," said Ribery in an interview published Friday in the French newspaper L & # 39; Equipe.
"A lot of other players have also eaten there, like me," he said.
Ribery, who was penalized by Bayern for his harsh criticism of his critics, said most fans should be more interested in his performance on the field than in food.
Regarding his future with Bayern Munich, whose contract will expire next month, after 12 years, Ribery announced that his advisor would meet with club officials in the near future.
"We'll see what happens in the coming weeks," added Ribery. "I will continue with Bayern if I can always give the team everything that I have."
