River Plate won the Copa Libertadores for the fourth time in its history after their 3-1 win over Boca Juniors on Sunday in the return leg of the Santiago Bernabeu final.
Boca Juniors opened the scoring with Dario Benedetto (44), but his rivals-archers responded in the second half with Prato, Juan Quinteros and Gonzalo Martinez in the 68th, 109th and 121st respectively.
The first leg at Boca stadium ended in a 2-2 draw, but the out-of-the-field scoring system did not depend on the final of the competition.
Riverbelt won the trophy for the fourth time in its history, while Boca Juniors was unable to win the seventh time and equalized the title record for Independiente.
The return match was scheduled for Nov. 24 at the Monumental Stadium in River, but was postponed after fans attacked the Boca bus before arriving at the stadium.
The continental union (Conmipol) decided to postpone the match to a later date the same evening before leaving for the next day and to postpone it again a few hours before the new date. After that, the federation announced the transfer of the match outside of Argentina and set its date at 19:30 GMT on December 9 at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium of Real Madrid.
River, who won the 1996 FIFA World Cup in 1996 and 2015, lost the trophy to the Champions League.
On the other hand, Boca did not win his first title since 2007 and beat his compatriot Independiente with seven titles in the competition (7 out of 7 final matches, the most recent in 1984).
