Actress Valerie Harper, winner of four Emmy Awards, died Friday at the age of 80 following the consequences of brain cancer.
Her daughter, Cristina Caciotti, said her mother died Friday morning (local time) and refused to give more details.
Harper has won three Emmy Awards for her role as a young feminist Roda Morgenstern in the 1970s classic television series The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Harper revealed to People magazine in March 2013 that she had cancer of the meninges, cancerous cells of the brain membrane.
But she suddenly reappeared after doctors diagnosed her in 2013 and told her that she only had a few months left to live. Barely seven months later, she participated in Dancing With Stars and in 2015, she played in the comic book Two Brooke Girls.
Harper, who was also diagnosed with lung cancer in 2009, was concerned about cancer research campaigns and sometimes acted until the beginning of this year.
Harper was relatively inexperienced as an actress in 1970 when she starred in Mary Tyler Moore, one of the most popular American television series of the 1970s.
Harper won three Emmy Awards for best actress in a second film between 1971 and 1973.
In 1974, she made her own performance under the name "Roda", which lasted five years and also won the Emmy Award for Best Actress in 1975.
Harper, who began her career as a Broadway dancer in the late 1950s, was born August 22, 1939 in Safran, New York, and moved to the country because of her father's work in the sale before to move to Jersey City, New Jersey.
