The Milan Court of Appeal, Italy, on Tuesday sentenced Brazilian player Robinho to nine years in prison for group sexual violence.
The former Real Madrid and Milan striker was convicted last year in December for his participation in a gang rape that took place in Italy in 2013, and was convicted of the incident in 2017.
According to the court statement, the former “samba” player and his “accomplices” expressed “contempt for the victim who was brutally humiliated”.
Robinho and his friend were among a group of six men accused of participating in the gang rape of a 22-year-old Albanian at a nightclub in Milan.
Robinho has the right to appeal the decision again within 45 days to the Supreme Court of Cassation, which is Italy’s highest court of appeal, and is considered the Brazilian star’s last resort.
Robinho’s last club was Brazilian Santos, who terminated the 37-year-old’s contract under pressure on the team amid the arraignment of the Brazilian star.
Robinho started his footballing career at Santos in 2002, joined Real Madrid in 2005, then played with Manchester City from 2008 to 2010, and Milan for four years until 2014, and he also played in China with Gwangju Evergrande, with Atletico Minero, Brazil, and Basak, Turkish Shahir.
Robinho has made 100 appearances for his country, scoring 28 goals.
