Saudi Information Minister Turki al-Shabana has denied reports that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has attempted to acquire Manchester United for 3.8 billion pounds.

Rumors have surfaced in recent days, although the Glaser family is not trying to sell its club.

The American family bought Manchester United in May 2005 for 790 million pounds.

"The announcement of Prince Mohammed bin Salman's desire to acquire Manchester United is totally unfounded," said Al Shabana.

He added: "The club held a meeting with the Public Investment Fund to discuss the sponsorship project, and the Fund listened to the proposals, as no investment resulted in a result."

In October, Manchester United has withdrawn from an investment forum in Saudi Arabia in the aftermath of the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The club recorded revenues of 208.6 million pounds in the second quarter of 2018 and a net profit of 104.3 million pounds before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization.

The reports indicate that the value of the club's takeover by the Glazers 14 years ago exceeded £ 1 billion.
