He described the two initiatives as setting the direction of the Kingdom and the region in protecting the land and nature and placing them on a roadmap with clear and ambitious milestones, and that they will contribute strongly to the achievement of global goals.
He said it will include a number of ambitious initiatives, the most important of which is the planting of 10 billion trees in the Kingdom over the next few decades, which equates to the rehabilitation of around 40 million people. hectares of degraded land, which means an increase in area. covered by current trees 12 times.
He added that this initiative represents the Kingdom’s contribution of more than 4% to the achievement of the goals of the global initiative to reduce land degradation and fungal habitats, and 1% of the global planting target. a trillion trees.
The Saudi Green Initiative will increase the proportion of protected areas to over 30% of the Kingdom’s land area, estimated at 600,000 square kilometers, to exceed the current global goal of protecting 17% of each country’s land, in addition to a number of initiatives to protect the marine and coastal environment.
The initiative will also reduce carbon emissions by more than 4% of global contributions, through renewable energy projects that will provide 50% of the Kingdom’s electricity production by 2030.
