Saudi Health reveals ‘shocking’ figures on tooth decay in Kingdom

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Cavities are gaps in the layer of tooth enamel formed by bacterial acids.

When bacteria find carbohydrates and sugars in teeth, they feed on them and produce these acids, stick to the tooth and form a layer called plaque within 20 minutes of eating.

If this layer is not cleaned, it turns into cavities which widen until reaching the dental nerve.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has the highest rates of dental caries in the world.

The incidence of tooth decay has reached more than 93% among schoolchildren, according to a video clip posted by the “Live Health” account via “Twitter”, which is the main health awareness platform of the Saudi Ministry of Health .

Nine out of ten children suffer from dental caries.

80% of 6-year-olds do not brush their teeth regularly.

Tooth decay is 100% preventable, according to the video.

To avoid cavities, teeth should be properly brushed at least twice a day.

In addition, care should be taken to clean the tongue and use dental floss to clean surfaces that the brush does not reach, and a dental clinic should be visited every 6 months to check for any cavities in their onset stage.

You also need to eat a balanced diet and reduce sugars and carbohydrates to protect your teeth.
