DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – President of the Saudi Football Federation, Qusay Al-Fawaz, resigned Monday for his "special circumstances" after four months in office.
The Saudi federation has published a statement on its official Twitter page announcing the resignation of Fawaz, who succeeded Adel Ezzat in October.
The union confirmed that the resignation of its president was entering into "special circumstances" without specifying, and pointed out that Fawaz MP Loay al-Subaie will assume the presidency of the Union until the convening of the General Assembly to appoint a new president.
The resignation of Al-Fawaz comes after several recent crises between the federation and the Saudi clubs, as well as Saudi's farewell to the 2019 Asia Cup round sixteen, which took around a month.
