Former Formula One world champion, Michael Schumacher, has awoken from a coma in which he had entered several years ago, the newspaper reported Wednesday.
The French daily Le Parisien said Schumacher, 50, was aware of what was happening after receiving stem cell therapy at a Paris hospital.
According to the newspaper, the famous French surgeon Philippe Menashe reportedly said: "Schumacher is aware now and he is in my department and under my supervision."
The media reported that Schumacher had been secretly transferred to the Cardiovascular Surgery Department of Georges Pompidou Hospital in Paris, where he would be followed by Professor Menashe.
Schumacher ended his 50-year career on 3 January but has not appeared in public since the incident he suffered during his stay in the French Alps five years ago.
Schumacher remains the most successful driver in the history of motor racing with 91 victories in the Grand Prix.
Schumacher won his first two titles with Benetton in 1994 and 1995 before winning five titles with Ferrari between 2000 and 2004.
