The European Space Agency (ESA) has released a new series of amazing and incredible images showing the crater of one of the giant volcanoes on Mars, the red planet covered with ice.
Mars Exploration Mars and the European Space Agency (ESA) captured these striking new images of the Mars Express High Definition Camera (HRSC) ice trap, which has been gravitating around Mars for 15 years.
The images may give the impression that the crater of Korolov is covered with snow, but it is actually ice: it extends for 82 km in its center, the deepest point, and the ice extends over 1.8 km.
The image was grouped from five distinct segments that were combined to form an image, with each band grouped into a different orbit.
The deepest parts of the corolla crater, those containing ice, function as a natural and fresh trap. The air that moves on the snow deposits cools and drowns, creating a layer of cold air lying directly above the ice.
The impressive nozzle was named after Russian rocket specialist Sergei Koroliev, a large hole caused by the violent explosion of a river volcano and turned into a depression, according to the agencies.
This magnificent crater is located in the northern lowlands of Mars, just south of Olympia Ondi, a vast area of dunes surrounding the polar blanket of the planet.
