American actress and singer Selena Gomez has expressed her displeasure with a joke made on a TV show about her undergoing a kidney transplant.
The series The Good Fight, a legal drama broadcast on the American network “CBS”, dealt with the surgery undergone by the former star of “Disney” in 2017.
Gomez, 29, called the joke “a lack of decency.” “I don’t know how to write organ transplant jokes for TV shows has become a thing[importante]but unfortunately it appears to be, “she wrote.
Last year, the producers of Saved By The Bell apologized to Gomez for a joke they made in 2017.
Last February, a Chinese variety show apologized for altering the star’s image after undergoing the operation.
Gomez added: “I hope these inappropriate jokes will now be criticized in writing workshops and not find their way through the air.”
The joke at the center of the controversy was shown in one of the episodes of the drama The Good Fight, produced by Paramount Plus. In the episode, the characters discuss topics whose comedies are now banned, including morbidity, autism, and “Leselina Gomez’s kidney transplant.”
The hashtag “Respect Selena Gomez” has spread online as her fans once again come to her defense.
Gomez thanked them on Twitter and Instagram, noting how “they still support her”.
A source from the show told The Hollywood Reporter, “If you watch the whole episode, you will know that referring to Gomez’s surgery was part of a discussion between the characters on matters that are no longer acceptable to discuss. laughter, the idea of cancellation culture and people ostracized for telling bad jokes. His operation is no laughing matter.
Four years ago, Gomez underwent a kidney transplant following his ongoing battle with lupus, an autoimmune disease.
She concluded her social media talk by encouraging people to donate their organs.
