Selfies can cause wrinkles

A new study warned of the danger of flash from a smartphone, which faces our faces while taking selfies.

Researchers at the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences have discovered that the flashes used in most smartphones can affect the skin's ability to regenerate cells, resulting in premature aging and wrinkles.

"Frequent exposure to selfie flashes can cause skin lesions and aging of the skin," said Dr. Najmeh Argamandi, who led the study. Current data show that exposure to blue light can cause different degrees of damage to the eyes and skin.

"Spectrum changes can be introduced in smartphone-based LEDs as an effective way to reduce the adverse health effects associated with exposure to blue light," he said.

As part of this study, researchers understood the effect of spontaneous flashes on the skin. They found that the ultraviolet rays emitted by the selfie flashes destabilize skin cell molecules and lead to wrinkles.

However, this effect only appears when the smartphone is installed towards the face.

Based on the results, researchers are encouraging smartphone manufacturers to use Xenon instead of LEDs.
