Allegations that Afghan female footballers were sexually abused resulted in delays in the payment of salaries after the withdrawal of sponsors.

FIFA suspended last December the president of the Afghan Football Federation and several officials. At least seven players were allegedly sexually assaulted by officials of the Afghan Football Federation.

The scandal has caused parents to prevent their girls from playing sports and some of them have been deprived of their education.

The team was founded in 2010, while some Afghans oppose the practice of women for sport.
