Stop the spread of cancer by turning it into fat

A team of scientists has confirmed that breast cancer cells can stop proliferating by turning them into harmless fat cells.

Results of the study: Cancer cells are able to adapt and spread in a certain way. Swiss scientists have therefore worked on the exploitation of this theory in mice. The team used a combination of drugs commonly used in the treatment of diabetes and cancer, which converts cancer cells into fat cells and prevents them from turning into cancer. It is still necessary to test the compound clinically, but the team from the University of Basel, Switzerland, hopes the process will be faster because the drugs have already been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

This combination reprogrammed the breast cancer cells and converted them into harmless fat cells, a process called adipogenesis. The team, led by biochemist professor Gerhard Christophory, targeted the cancer cells during a process called Transient Transition Mediated (TME).

), Which are used by the body, usually associated with organ development and wound healing.

Cancer cells use the process of "transient medial transition" to modify their partial properties and transform them into different types of cells, allowing them to spread throughout the body.

Although the composition of the drug did not function in the same way with all cancer cells, the successful cases showed no evidence of growth or proliferation of cancer cells in the surrounding tissues.
