Study claims to reveal what makes Corona virus more contagious!

A new study has warned that the Corona virus has caused many genetic mutations to build up, and one of them may have made it more contagious.

Researchers at the University of Texas at Austin have analyzed the cases of more than 5,000 patients with “Covid-19” to understand how the SARS-CoV-2 virus has mutated.

They identified a mutation, called D614G, which appears to make the virus more contagious.

“The virus mutates due to a combination of neutral drift – which only means random genetic changes that do not help or harm the virus – as well as stress on our immune system,” said Dr Ilya Finkelstein , co-author of the study.

Researchers’ analysis found that during the first wave of the epidemic, 71% of Covid-19 patients had the D614G mutation, which spread over the summer by 99.9%, according to the team.

“The virus continues to mutate as it spreads around the world. Real-time surveillance efforts like our study will ensure that global vaccines and treatments are always ahead of the curve,” added the Dr Finkelstein.

In total, the researchers identified a total of 285 mutations, although most of them do not appear to have a significant effect on the severity of the disease.

However, the researchers note that with each new infection, there is an additional chance to develop more dangerous mutations.

Speaking to the Washington Post, James Moser, who led the study, said: “This virus has given us many opportunities.”
